Roberto Luongo Sides With Marc-Andre Fleury And Takes A Shot At The NHL After Gary Bettman Forbid Fleury From Wearing A Helmet Honoring His Wife

Last night Marc-Andre Fleury was front and center in the NHL news cycle. He decided to wear a helment celebrating Native American Heritage in honor of his wife. He did this despite being forbidden to by the NHL.

UPDATE: Rule be damned, Marc-Andre Fleury is wearing his Native American Heritage mask in warmups. I'm told it's very unlikely he or the #mnwild will be fined, but he's risking it

His mask is up to $5,600 in the auction�vastly more than any other item

Despite the certain fine that Fleury was facing from the NHL Fleury stuck to what is important to him. Since making this decision many people have come out and supported Fleury's decision including NHL legend Roberto Luongo.

Last night after the announcement was made that Fleury would be fined if he wore the mask NHL legend Roberto Luongo spoke out. He called out the NHL for their ridiculous application of rules.

Luongo echoes the thoughts of many in the hockey community. Every other league allows and encourages players to support causes they believe in. The NHL tries to silence players from supporting causes and it is getting ridiculous.
