One thing's for certain, if the team doesn't start playing better, something in Edmonton needs to change, whether it's coaching, goaltending, or otherwise. One insider believes the Oilers are actively seeking a controversial name to join them between the pipes.
In case you missed it, Oilers GM Ken Holland put goalie Jack Campbell on waivers yesterday in order to send him to the AHL. That leaves the team with Stewart Skinner, who has also not been playing well, and Calvin Pickard, who is likely to be called up from Bakersfield. However, one report states Holland is already looking at Campbell's replacement.
Binnington would certainly be interesting. While his record with the St. Louis Blues so far this season is 3-4-1, his stats are much better than any netminder currently with the Oilers (2.58 Goals Against Average and .919 save percentage). There is, of course, Binnington's mentality to take into account. He has a reputation as a hothead and someone who has often crossed the line in an attempt to agitate opponents. After this season, Binnington has another three left on his current contract, with an annual cap hit of $6 million. The Oilers would certainly need salary going the other way to pull this off.
