The Edmonton Oilers right now have the star power and the offense to compete for a Stanley Cup, but without goaltending, this is a squad that's yet to come anywhere near its potential.
According to a report from a known Oilers reporter, the team are considering the idea of promoting AHL goaltender Olivier Rodrigue, who carries a 5-3-2 record in 11 games this year alongside a 2.25 GAA and a .923 save percentage.
While this could turn out to be a great move, most Oilers fans are expecting a much bigger move, and it appears this may be a last gasp effort to find goaltending before the team part ways with much of their draft capital.
Nothing is yet confirmed, but Rodrigue has done everything possible to get a role in the NHL, and if they give him an extended opportunity in January, it allows them time to make a bigger move if this one doesn't work out.
