The Edmonton Oilers have been one of the most disappointing teams in the entire NHL this season. While many expected them to lead the pacific division, some even expected them to win the Stanley Cup. Instead, the team is one of the favorites to win the draft lottery. Recently though, the team got a boost in moral as they were visited by NHL legend Duncan Keith.
Duncan Keith is one of the greatest defenseman of his generation. In his storied NHL career he played 1256 games, recording 106 goals and 646 points. 1192 of those games came with the Chicago Blackhawks but he ended his Hall of Fame worthy career in Edmonton when he joined them for the 2021-22 season. The seasoned veteran announced his retirement following the conclusion of his first season in Edmonton.
Right now, the Oilers could use the veteran experience Keith brings to any organization. Reportedly, the 40-year-old former blueliner visited the Oilers locker room personally last week, offering some words of wisdom to this troubled Oilers squad.
The Oilers have gone 2-3 since Keith's visit, which is by no means good, but it is a step up from how the team had been playing to start the season.
