The Carolina Hurricanes made a surprising move today, signing a veteran goaltender to a professional tryout contract.

17 Years

Jaroslav Halak has played in the NHL for parts of 17 seasons. However, the 38-year-old found himself without a team to start the 2023-24 season, until now.
"Goaltender Jaroslav Halak is joining the Hurricanes as a free agent tryout. Frederik Andersen is dealing with a medical issue and undergoing evaluations. An update will be provided when available, but no further comment will be issued until that time." - Carolina PR

Andersen

Andersen has played in parts of six games for the Hurricanes so far this season, and had a record of 4-1-0. It's anyone's guess what exactly is wrong with him or how he was injured. We'll have to wait to find out more. In the meantime, it looks like Halak will at least get a shot to show he can still hang in the NHL. A PTO means an actual regular season contract still needs to be signed.
