A rival contending team has poached a forward away from the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Aston-Reese Signs In Carolina

Walt Ruff, the Carolina Hurricanes team reporter, just revealed that the Hurricanes have signed Zach Aston-Reese to a PTO.
The #Canes have inked a seventh and final PTO, adding Zach Aston-Reese to their training camp roster.

The 29-year-old skated in 77 games with Toronto during the 2022-23 campaign.

Aston-Reese is a defensive specialist despite being a forward. With the Leafs last season, he played primarily on the penalty kill and in defensive situations.
He also had a great year offensively in Toronto posting 10 goals, a career high, and 14 points. While he may not be the biggest name, he was a fan favorite in Toronto for his consistent play.
Now, Aston-Reese will look to earn a contract with the Carolina Hurricanes and if he gets a contract, he will fight for a roster spot and eventually look to help them out as a defensive specialist.
