Recently, former THE FAN-590 host Howard Berger confirmed that the Leafs have offered Auston Matthews a 4-year, $52 million contract.
Since they have discussed a deal at $13 million for four years, the Leafs are committed to Matthews for the long run. Due to this, it looks like William Nylander may be on his way out of Toronto because he may also command a cap hit in the $10 million range.
With each passing day, it is seeming more and more likely that Nylander will be moved out to keep Matthews in town. With Nylander gone, the Leafs can afford to give Matthews even more and hopefully could wind up securing him for 8 years.
