Corey Perry Set to Join Cup Contending Team Sooner Than Expected

Corey Perry could be returning to the NHL much sooner than many expected when his deal was terminated earlier this year, and he is linked to this Canadian team.

Perry Deemed Eligible for Return to NHL Play Despite Baggage

Corey Perry was determined earlier this week to be eligible for a return to the NHL. Once that was announced, it immediately became a question of who might take a risk on the veteran forward.


Perry himself has admitted to struggling with alcoholism in his only public statement since the incident. With that, and the uncertainty regarding what incident occurred for Perry to be terminated in Chicago, it's clear that any team that signs him will be taking on some baggage, the question is whether or not Perry is worth it.

Corey Perry Linked to Potential Deal In Toronto

Now, it appears that the Toronto Maple Leafs are the first to reach out to Perry, as former Maple Leaf Carlo Colaiacovo has stated that there is a mutual interest between the two parties in doing a potential deal.



This would be an interesting situation for Perry, given he would be thrown into the deep end coming back from the termination into the brightest spotlights in the League. However, it has been reported by Elliotte Freedman that there is a feeling that if Perry was on another team, a termination may not have even happened.



We will wait and see whether or not Perry signs a deal this year, or continues to lay low. The deadline for his decision to be eligible for this year's playoffs is March 8th.
