While Stuart Skinner has been solid as of late, we know what happened in the playoffs a year ago, so the Edmonton Oilers are still likely looking for a fix in net.

Intriguing trade proposal emerges, swapping veteran goaltenders

There's been plenty of links to star goaltenders for the Oilers, but perhaps the best fix of all is to find a solid, veteran backup to go along with Skinner as the playoffs draw near.

Now, that's exactly what has been offered in this intriguing trade proposal between the Oilers and the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Edmonton and Columbus swap veterans

While most teams in the league won't be able to afford a cap hit of over $4 million for the next four years for Elvis Merzelikins, the Oilers can do just that by offloading, and potentially giving new life to the career of Jack Campbell.

Ultimately though, given how bad he has been in Edmonton, it's likely that the Blue Jackets would want a pick or two in return to make this deal even realistic, but perhaps this is the start of the groundworks for a move that makes sense for both of these teams.
