We all know the Edmonton Oilers desperately need help between the pipes before the season slips away. According to one insider, they just about had it this week, but it slipped away.

Edmonton Almost Made Big Move in Net This Week

In his latest 32 Thoughts, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman said something was obviously brewing on Wednesday, but for whatever reason, it didn't work.
"There are people in the league who believe the Oilers were on the precipice of a big move on Wednesday. I don't know what happened... but I had people say to me, watch the Oilers in goal, they're up to something, and they weren't talking about [Jack] Campbell"

Campbell was put on waivers Wednesday and subsequently sent to the minors, where he played his first game last night. It didn't go well, with Campbell taking the loss while letting in four goals on 20 shots.

Reports of a Failed Major Move Between the Pipes in Edmonton

The idea that Edmonton will be able to trade Campbell without retaining salary is ridiculous. Even with sweeteners like draft picks or prospects, no one's taking on his full $5 million cap hit for another three seasons after this one. GM Ken Holland has forced himself into a position where he has to jump through some major hoops to get help in net.
