The Top Candidates To Land Phil Kessel Revealed

Phil Kessel is known as the NHL's Ironman playing over 1,000 consecutive games but he is willing to sacrifice this streak to continue his NHL career.

Kessel has made it clear that he wants to get a guaranteed contract, not just a PTO when he does sign and there are some teams willing to give him what he wants.

In a recent article by NHL Trade Rumors, they revealed the spots that make the most sense for Kessel: St. Louis and Calgary.

Calgary makes sense for mainly one reason which is that they just lost Jakob Pelletier long term after a nasty shoulder injury.

With Pelletier out, the Flames are in need of some secondary scoring and Kessel could provide that for them.

The Blues also make sense for Kessel considering their lack of secondary scoring. The majority of their offense runs through their top few lines and if they want to see their bottom six get a bit more productive, Kessel could be the perfect catalyst.

Kessel would also provide the perfect mentor role to forward Jake Neighbours who has not broken out at the NHL level but could certainly make a big step next year. If Kessel can teach him those NHL ropes a bit more, he could become invaluable to the Blues organization.
