The Winnipeg Jets have been one of the busiest teams in the NHL this off-season, moving Pierre-Luc Dubois and buying out Blake Wheeler, with many expecting Connor Hellebuyck and Mark Scheifele to follow soon after.

A change of heart?

According to the Winnipeg Sun's Scott Billeck, the two pending 2024 UFA's were expected to be moved this off-season, but with the market drying up as teams near full salary cap, it appears that may not be the case after all.

As of right now, there's no market for either of them, as their cap hit has deterred several teams, with Schiefele also carrying a 10-team no trade clause, and now many are speculating they could be on the teams opening night roster.

Could we see some extensions?

At this point in time, it's unclear whether either would be willing to stay in Winnipeg, but Billeck speculates that the team have likely approached both of them about staying in Winnipeg, the only NHL city both have called home thus far.

Regardless of if either sign a long-term contract or not, this is positive news for the Jets that the subject is even being broached, as many expected them to be gone right now, and if they want to make a playoff push in 2023-24, having them on the roster will be a big help.
