Is Kessel's NHL Journey Coming to an End?

Phil Kessel, often referred to as the NHL's Iron Man, is yet to ink a deal for the upcoming season. At 35, he's aware that his best days on the ice are behind him. Consequently, he's looking at a likely one-year agreement close to the league's minimum salary.
Elliotte Friedman has indicated that Kessel is open to a reduced role, telling teams that "it won't be a problem if he's not an everyday player."
But make no mistake, Kessel is eager to keep playing. With three Stanley Cup wins under his belt, he remains an appealing option for teams needing more firepower.

Blue Jackets Eyeing Kessel?

Given that Kessel's anticipated salary is around $1M and with 20 NHL teams having less than $1.5M in available cap space for the forthcoming season, his choices seem limited.
Recent reports hint that the Columbus Blue Jackets are interested in bringing Kessel aboard.
Firstly, they can afford him.
Secondly, they're desperate for additional scoring, having placed 31st last season despite talents like Patrik Laine and Johnny Gaudreau on their roster. The issues lie deeper, and Kessel could be just the right fit for their bottom-six forwards.
Lastly, signing Kessel is far from risky. Allocating a million dollars to a seasoned veteran with three Stanley Cups to his name would be a calculated risk.
The upside? Kessel could play a huge role in Columbus!
