The New York Islanders will be starting the season at a disadvantage after their top players is confirmed to miss the beginning of training camp.

Injury Sidelines Young Defenseman

The New York Islanders are eager to bounce back in the upcoming 2023-24 NHL season following their recent playoff disappointment, where they were eliminated in the First Round by the Carolina Hurricanes. This marks the second year in a row that the Islanders failed to advance beyond the initial stage. However, they've encountered a setback as they prepare for the new season.
Reports have surfaced that the Islanders might face some early-season challenges due to an injury to one of their defensemen, Alexander Romanov. Romanov underwent shoulder surgery in the offseason, casting doubt on his availability for the start of the season.
Alexander Romanov may not be ready for the start of Islanders training camp following offseason shoulder surgery.

But the defenseman is progressing and expected to return soon, per GM Lou Lamoriello.

While Romanov's absence is not anticipated to be long-term, it remains a source of frustration for Islanders fans.

Romanov's Opportunity to Shine

Acquired in exchange for the 13th overall pick in the 2022 draft, Alexander Romanov has played 76 games for the Islanders and contributed 22 points. He proved his worth as a valuable top-four defenseman in his debut season. However, there is belief that Romanov has untapped potential.
At just 23 years old, Romanov has room for growth, particularly in terms of offensive contributions. While he has yet to showcase his offensive abilities in the NHL, he has displayed his knack for offense in international competitions.
His complete potential can only be realized once he fully recovers from his injury. As he becomes more comfortable in his return, fans can expect to witness his game evolve and improve over the course of the season.
