After receiving bad news about one of their forwards the Montreal Canadiens may be able to use their new found cap space to their advantage.

Montreal Involved In Three-Team Trade Talks?

With the news that forward Christian Dvorak being out for the season with a torn pectoral muscle it seemed to be all bad news for the Canadiens however that might not be the case.
According to David Pagnotta of the Fourth Period, the cap space that the Canadiens get may be used to facilitate a three-team trade and therefore land some more picks and prospects in a three-team trade.
Must read on Hockey OTB
«The Montreal Canadiens, already active in the trade market with the likes of Jake Allen and David Savard available, announced this morning that forward Christian Dvorak will undergo surgery tomorrow on a torn pectoral muscle and will miss the rest of the season. That could potentially free up an extra $4.15M in extra LTIR cap pace, and we all know the Habs aren't against weaponizing their cap space as a third-party facilitator.»

Teams may be more willing to make blockbuster trades with the Canadiens having the ability to take some cap in to make trades go through.

The Loss Of Christian Dvorak To The Canadiens

The Canadiens head coach Martin St. Louis admitted the loss of Dvorak isn't great saying «D-vo is a guy who does more than one thing. We need to replace that collectively.»
Dvorak seems to have become injury prone as his season last year was cut short as he had season ending knee surgery to held him to 64 games for the Canadiens.
Dvorak had three goals and seven points in 25 games this season for the Canadiens. The 27-year-old will look to try and return next season for Montreal.
