Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Brad Marchand of the Boston Bruins seem like two people whose on-ice attitudes would run each other the wrong way. There is respect there, though and game recognized game ahead of a special milestone for one of them.
While Marchand was playing his 1000th NHL game, several messages from current and former teammates, as well as friends from around the league were broadcast on the Jumbotron during breaks in play. One of those messages was sent by Crosby, who made a bit of a joke while saying his piece.
That, of course, brought in a ton of responses from fans with several saying it would be pretty cool to se Crosby in a Boston jersey one day.
While the jokes are funny, it's not entirely impossible these two become teammates at some point, if even for a brief time. The Pittsburgh Penguins' plan to try and win now with the core they have is simply not working. Should a full rebuild be ordered, few players would fetch more assets for the future on the open market than Crosby.
There's also the hometown connection. Brad Marchand is from Halifax, Nova Scotia, while Crosby's hometown in Cole Harbour, which is still in the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM). It's a close knit hockey community, too and there's no question these two crossed paths many times before making it to the NHL. There are also photos every offseason of Crosby, Marchand, and usually a couple other NHL players enjoying drinks and food at Halifax restaurants. You can usually find Nathan MacKinnon of the Colorado Avalanche with them, as well. MacKinnon is also from Halifax.
