In a hockey game that appears to be in Slovakia, a fight gets out of hand after a referee doesn't step in. This leads a player to get majorly injured.

Referee Slides Out Of The Way

A Slovak league game between Slovan Bratislava and HK Dukla Michalovce got out of hand when a brawl between teams began. Two individuals squared up to fight. The HK Dukla Michalovce player willingly took on the fight and knocked out his opponent from Slovan Bratislava in one punch.
Before the fight was going to go down a referee looked like he was going to get between the players. He ultimately got out of the way and allowed the fight to happen. The Slovan Bratislava player was taken off the ice by stretcher.

Fighting In Hockey

Recently the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) banned fighting. These kinds of incidents are the reason for the ban. Over the next few years it will be interesting to see how leagues including the Slovakian Hockey League handle fighting and its place in the game. The Slovan Bratislava player Patrik Maier would go on to be okay and return later on in the season.
