Today new Edmonton Oilers prospect Matt Savoie spoke for the first time since being traded to the team by the Buffalo Sabres.

Last week the Buffalo Sabres and Edmonton Oilers struck a trade. In the deal the Edmonton Oilers sent Ryan McLeod and Ty Tullio to the Buffalo Sabres and received former top-10 pick Matt Savoie in return.
After the trade fans and media took to social media and immediately analyzed the trade. Some believed it was an overpay by the Buffalo Sabres while others to not see the high potential that Matt Savoie once had. Today Matt Savoie got to address all of these things and more in a new interview.

Matt Savoie breaks his silence after being traded to the Edmonton Oilers

Today Matt Savoie was present at the Edmonton Oilers facility. He spoke to the media and talked about being traded to the Edmonton Oilers where he grew up a fan of the team.
Being an Edmonton guy growing up around here always coming to games as a kid initial thought when I heard the news was excited.

He then was asked about his brother Carter Savoie who spent multiple seasons in the Edmonton Oilers organization prior to Matt Savoie being acquired. Matt Savoie says the familiarity will be a huge help.
It's definitely nice having a brother in the organization prior just to have a little bit more familiarity and skate in the summer a couple of times here.

After talking about his new opportunity the media asked Matt Savoie about his feelings regarding Buffalo and being traded away. He revealed that he understood why the move was made and looked forward to his new opportunity in Edmonton.
They have a ton of young prospects right now that are on the cusp of making the league. I think they had to move a couple of guys out and try to make their team better now.

Finally, Matt Savoie was asked what he could bring to the Edmonton Oilers in the future. In his answer, he highlighted his pace and processing speed as two standout traits of his game.
I think I like to play really fast. I think the game at a high level as well so I'm looking for the best opportunity to put the puck in the net while being reliable on the defensive side as well.
The Edmonton Oilers will certainly miss Ryan McLeod holding down the third line next season. However, if Matt Savoie can develop into the player many believe he can it will be well worth the sacrifice in the long run.
