BREAKING: The Boston Bruins Have A Plan For Milan Lucic's Future

Several major developments have come to the public in recent days regarding Milan Lucic. He was arraigned on charges and had his next court date set. He also entered the NHL's Player Assistance Program. Now today a reporter who has inside knowledge of the Bruins has another update.

According to Jimmy Murphy, the Bruins could use the morality clause in an NHL player's contract to terminate Lucic's contract.

«The «Morality Clause» of the Standard Player Contract (SPC) states that a team can terminate a deal with a player who breaches the contract with «conduct detrimental to the best interest of the Club. Each player must �agree to conduct himself on and off the rink according to the highest standards of honesty, morality, fair play, and sportsmanship and to refrain from conduct detrimental to the best interest of the Club, the League, or professional hockey generally.'»

With the language used Lucic would definitely qualify as conduct detrimental to the interest of the club. Although the Bruins can enact this at any time Murphy believes the Bruins will allow Lucic to spend at least 30 days in the Player Assistance Program. Once released Lucic would no longer qualify for these services.

This is likely the Bruins making sure a person who has been a key member of their organization over the past decade gets the help he needs. Beyond the 30 days, the Bruins would consider terminating Lucic's contract.

With this now on the table, the next month will be a key waiting period for new information both from the Bruins and Lucic's legal process. Lucic will next be in court in January 2024.
