Steven Stamkos has vocalized how he wants to extend in Tampa but their GM Julien Brisebois has made it clear he wants to wait.

Brisebois Wants To Wait

According to NHL insider Pierre Lebrun, the Lightning's General Manager, Julien BriseBois, has decided not to discuss a contract extension with Stamkos until the season ends.
Lebrun mentioned this on "Insider Trading" emphasizing that Tampa's management wants to see their chances of winning the Stanley Cup before committing to re-signing Stamkos.
LeBrun on Insider Trading says Lightning will wait until after the season when it comes to Stamkos extension talks. Lightning want to see where they are as a contender before considering re-signing Stamkos.

Stamkos Aims for Another Cup

Stamkos, at 33 years old, is entering the tail end of his career. Despite his age, he's proven to still be a star player. However, the big question is how much longer he can maintain his elite play.
In the meantime, Stamkos remains focused on winning. He has already led the Lightning to two Stanley Cup victories in 2020 and 2021. With his current contract expiring at the end of the season, this year could be his last chance to win with the team that drafted him.
