The Oilers are expected to be all-out buyers this year as GM Ken Holland looks to build the best possible supporting cast around Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. Earlier this year, Allan Mitchell of the Athletic reported that Holland would most likely use his best trade assets in the relatively near future. Now that opening night is less than a week away the clock is ticking for GMs around the league.
Holland opened up cap space last year when he traded Klim Kostin and Kailer Yamamoto to the Red Wings in a move that was a pure cap dump. Now that he has a little more wiggle room, it seems that he may have some bigger fish to fry.
The Oilers have been rumored to be looking for a new goalie as Jack Campbell hasn't worked out and Stuart Skinner is still a somewhat unproven player despite his Calder-finalist-worthy rookie season. As of this moment, it is not clear exactly what an Oilers trade may look like but do not be surprised if Skinner is involved, especially if another goalie is coming back.
